On November 17th, International Students' Day, events will take place at universities across the world to demonstrate solidarity with Iranian students, academics and scholars. We will honor their bravery and struggles for basic human and civil rights.

For more than seventy years, Iranian students and academics have been one of the leading defenders of basic freedoms and rights. For this, they have paid dearly, with imprisonment, torture, rape and their lives.

Following the June 12th elections and the brutal crackdown on peaceful protestors during last summer, students and scholars, along with others including the members of women’s movement, once again led the struggle.

Global solidarity continues to pressure the government of Iran and other governments in their relations with the government of Iran, in order to hold accountable those who have jailed, raped, tortured, and murdered the Iranians demanding their civil and human rights.

And although the mainstream media has failed to cover the ongoing struggle, it continues to exist in Iran.

Since the universities have opened in late September, Iranian students have again assumed a brave and active voice. Chants in dormitories and outcries in lecture halls, and on campuses throughout the country, occur regularly. One brave honor student voiced his grave concerns about the Supreme Leader while being broadcast nationally.

These brave women and men are risking their lives and future. Leave a message, and let’s support these courageous students and academics in every way we can.

Freedom is near, my friends. The world admires your courage and high spirits. Because of you, the world now knows the people of Iran wants nothing but freedom. It is because of you that I am prouder than ever to be an Iranian. It is because of you that I find my motivation to get up every morning, since I am hopeful that we will soon have a free country where there is freedom of speech, freedom of religion, freedom of style, freedom of being happy! We will be able to smile again without a baton or gun to our head. We can criticize our government so they can do better. We wont go to prison for political activities. People wont be executed anymore in our country. Religion will be a personal choice again. Our mothers and sisters will taste equality again. And finally, we have the right to choose our government officials and we get to change them if need be. Imagine that. Imagine a free Iran without a supreme leader, without a revolutionary guard, but with peace and love. Stay strong my dear friends. freedom is near.

I am an American who loves the Iranian people. Right now we have a government we don't want, but he isn't killing us, yet. I stand with you and pray for you. FREEDOM IS NOT FREE. Be free!

The peaceful revolution in Eastern Europe and the fall of the Berlin Wall 20 years ago have shown us that peaceful change is indeed possible. We must never stop believing that such a miracle can happen again. Keep up your great spirit, people of Iran. The free world is watching you and standing by your side.

You need to remember in a truly democratic movement everyone is elected. We need to set up an election process that all members can elect the movement leadership. The Iranian people need to be assured that the movement will not just turn into another form of dictatorship. I believe this will go a long way to getting an all inclusive movement.
